Nicolaas Faure van Schalkwyk

Manager of Solar Training Centre (SUNCybernetics) – Currently instated as independent trainer, researcher and developer for solar PV application. Other activities include O&M services, tender specification development and independent consulting to public and private companies. (2015-Present).

Consulting and co-consulting projects include but are not limited to:

  • 15MW Ground mounted Grid Tied tracking system overseas (2022)
  • 3 MW Rooftop and Free field project in Richards Bay (2021/22)
  • 2MW of different tender proposals for George Municipality (2022-2023)
  • 2MW Free field project in Madagascar (2018-19)
  • 250kWp Solar System for Netcare Life Hospital in Fourways (2016)

Lead Solar Training Centre Trainer (SUNCybernetics) – Co-trained officials from almost 90 different Municipalities, SALGA, GIZ, DoE and Eskom in terms of PV solar technology, its integration, relevant processes, lessons learned from projects in South Africa, regulation and standards: including the NRS 097 and SANS 10142 series. Assisted with the development of an online training platform for on Small-Scale Embedded Generation to Municipalities;

www.sseg.org.za. Trained more than 950 electricians, engineers, planners, entrepreneurs and others from both the public (Eskom, Municipalities, NERSA, DoE, etc.) and private sector to date. Participated in SAPVIA conferences and workshops including those focused on the PV solar Green Card. Attended SMA’s Hybrid system design course in 2015. Attended BSS Solar system training on the SANS 10142 series in 2016. (2014 - Present).

SUNCybernetics – Served as Jr. Design Engineer for SUNCybernetics; Designed, installed and managed solar PV plants. Were responsible for network connections and grid limiting solutions (2014 - 2016)

Project manager for SSEG Training & Technical Support to Municipalities – Helped developed, co-ordinate and facilitate the SSEG training program since it’s in inception in 2016 and it is still on going.
